What is it?

Board gaming Convention – 24th-25th November 2018 at

The Park Barn Centre, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 8EN

The primary focus is on open gaming, although we do have some events/tournaments as well.

Goal

Play games, have fun, don’t die, avoid nuclear war, raise money for charity.

Charity

Defcon 1 will be supporting Mind with the profits from this event.

Ticket Refunds

Purchased tickets may be refunded, less the booking and transaction fees, at the organisers discretion.

Attendees

Defcon is an event aimed at adult gamers and won’t have special provision for younger attendees.

Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and consideration of the type of event should be given before attending. Please ask if you have questions or concerns.

Defcon welcomes attendees with disabilities. The Park Barn Centre is used as a social day centre during the week, so has good access and disabled toilets.

The disabled parking bays won’t be in operation, unless they are needed, so if you have mobility issues please let us know and we will reserve you a parking space.

Getting to the event

Bus routes 4 and 5
If travelling by bus from Guildford Station catch the 5 from Guildford Park Road and get off at the Bargate Court or Kings College stops.

Please note: ‘The Park Barn Community Centre’ bus stop is NOT the stop for the Park Barn Centre. The community centre is on the other side of the Park Barn estate and about 10-15 minutes walk away.

Train station – The centre is around 30 minutes walk from Guildford main train station.

Parking

The Park Barn Centre has limited free parking for around 35 cars in front of the centre.

The disabled parking bays won’t be in operation, unless they are needed, so if you have mobility issues please let us know and we will reserve you a parking space.

Please do not park in the King’s College school car parks.

Additional free parking can be found in the surrounding streets, please park courteously.

It will be possible to drop off your games and bags prior to parking if need be.

Food & drink

Free water, tea, instant coffee and biscuits will be available.

Additionally, soft drinks and a limited selection of crisps and snacks will be on sale.

Tesco’s Guildford is a 2 minute drive or 5 minute walk from the Park Barn Centre.

Attendees are permitted to bring their own food and drinks.

Alcohol is not permitted.

On the Saturday we will be doing a group order for Fish and Chips from Seafare in Worplesdon.

Guildford has a wide range of eating establishments, many of which will deliver to the centre.

Please be respectful of the centre and other gamers when ordering, eating and disposing of food.

Tournaments and Events

Spaces for events are limited.

Pandemic Survival – Saturday 11:30 and Sunday 11:30 (subject to interest)

Pandemic Survival is a competitive version of Pandemic where teams of two players compete to cure the Pandemic first or be the last team standing.

If you like Pandemic and haven’t tried this yet it’s well worth a try.

To participate you need to bring:
A team of 2 players. (If you don’t have a teammate we will match up players on the day.)
A copy of Pandemic 1st or 2nd Edition. We may have very limited copies of Pandemic available to borrow.
A £2 charity donation as your entry fee.

The winning team will receive store credit at The Games Shop Aldershot.

Pitch Car – Saturday and Sunday

Have you got the skills to flick your car around the devilish course, or will you spend the entire time collecting your car from the floor!

Find out if you have what it takes to take the chequered flag.

Entry is a £1 charity donation per race.

The winning player will receive store credit at The Games Shop Aldershot.

Board Games Library

The Games Shop Aldershot are kindly loaning us their board games library so we will have a selection of games to borrow during the day. This includes some of the excellent Unlock! games, these are well worth a try if you haven’t already.

Trading

There will not be a bring and buy at Defcon. However a notice board will be available for people to post games they would like to sell. This can also be done via the facebook group.

Due to storage limitations, please do not bring games for sale into the centre if you can avoid it.

Try to restrict yourself to bringing a few games priced to sell, preferably with trades in advance, rather than all your old junk!
